More About Kannapolis, NC

Kannapolis (Kŭh-nă-pŭh-lŭs) is a city in Cabarrus and Rowan counties, in the U.S. state of North Carolina,[1][2] northwest of Concord and northeast of Charlotte and is a suburb[7] in the Charlotte metropolitan area. The city of Kannapolis was incorporated in 1984. The population was 42,625 at the 2010 census,[8] which makes Kannapolis the 20th largest city in North Carolina. It is the home of the Kannapolis Intimidators, the Class A baseball affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and it is the hometown of the Earnhardt racing family. The center of the city is home to the North Carolina Research Campus, a public-private venture that focuses on food, nutrition, and biotech research.

Early meaning and usage of the city’s name was a direct reference to Cannon Mills Corporation, or James William Cannon himself. Early published name variations include “Cannon-opolis” and “Cannapolis”. A widely accepted origin of the word “Kannapolis” comes from the combination of the Greek words kanna (reeds, not looms) and polis (city), which some believed meant “City of Looms”.[9] Dr. Gary Freeze, Catawba College history and politics department chairman, said a Concord newspaper used the name “Cannon City” in 1906. After mill workers or newspapers called the town “Cannapolis”, J.W. Cannon asked Cabarrus County commissioners to give the town the name, but starting with a “K”. Kannapolis historian Norris Dearmon said the K might have been to distinguish the town from his Concord mill village. Since, Freeze said, “Jim Cannon didn’t study Greek,” Cannon did not name the town “city of looms”.[10] In 1906 J.W. Cannon purchased the land that later became Kannapolis, and acquired a total of 1,008 acres in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. Approximately 808 of those acres of farmland, purchased along the historic wagon road between Salisbury and Charlotte, became the location of the new textile mill, Cannon Manufacturing. Cannon Manufacturing began production in 1908. In 1914 Cannon Manufacturing became known as the world’s largest producer of sheets and towels. Shortly after, Mr. Cannon opened plants in Rowan County, Concord and in South Carolina totaling 20,000 workers. Mill founder J.W. Cannon’s youngest son, Charles A. Cannon, consolidated all the separate mills into the giant Cannon Mills Company in 1928.

3 Helpful Hints For Picking A Neighborhood Window Installation Company

Do you need windows replaced or installed? In that case, then you’ll must take the time to locate the best window installation company in your area. Deciding on the wrong company could cost a lot of money. There are many things which may go wrong if your window is not properly installed. Here are some helpful hints for avoiding disaster and determining the best possible window installation company.

1. Prevent The “Jack Of All Trades”

It’s understandable that companies want to make as much money as possible. Due to this, they frequently branch out and can include various different services. Unfortunately for your customers, this may lead to an absence of focus. A company that spreads itself too thin can never really specialize in one area, which implies they may never really be the greatest.

In terms of window installation, you need to go with a company that focuses entirely on windows. They could remove, replace, install, and sustain windows, however it isn’t the same company that does your landscaping or fixes the roof. You would like to make use of a company that is installing windows every single day and consequently has a bunch of knowledge about windows.

2. Check Out Their Window Quality

It’s very easy to get so dedicated to the corporation along with its workers which you forget about the windows themselves. Not all the windows are created equal and never all installation companies use the same suppliers. There’s no sense in being the most effective installation company if you’re going to install sub-par windows for the clients.

One way to ensure the standard of the windows is to find out when they are CSA certified. The CSA Group certifies products that meet a very high level of safety and quality. Windows and doors are two goods that are typically certified by the CSA Group. In the event the installer doesn’t use CSA certified windows, then they simply aren’t utilizing the best product available.

3. Much More Certifications

Certifications for windows are great and tend to be certifications for people and businesses. The CSA Group doesn’t certify businesses or contractors, but there are numerous services which do. Several different certifications to look for would be the American Window and Door Institute (ASDI) certification along with the Window Wise certification.

What happens if the company has certifications coming from a different organization? It will likely be up to you to examine that organization and determine if their standard of quality is sufficient. There are some organizations that simply give away certifications to get a fee plus they ought not to be taken seriously. Try to find organizations who have strict standards and regularly require retesting.

Don’t Forget To Inquire About Around

Finally, don’t forget to inquire about friends, family members, and co-workers should they have experience with any local window installation companies. Odds are, somebody that you know has been doing business with one. They are able to either give you a recommendation or tell you which companies are wise to avoid. But remember to maintain the above mentioned hints under consideration regardless if considering a recommendation coming from a trusted friend.
