A Consumer Guide To Replacing Windows

Home Replacement Windows – What's Your Style?

In this guide we are certainly not going to tell you which design type of home replacement windows you have to buy, and neither should any window manufacturer or supplier either.

The choice is up to you as a family which of the home replacement window styles will best suit your budget and other requirements. Though please do take some advice in that for better chances of future peace, it should be always be a joint decision. “I never wanted that type window anyway!” is not something that will be welcomed at a later date if tensions arise.

Your house is yours, and the choice of replacement window styles is numerous. Each window style has benefits of their own which can sometimes depend on their application and required function and sometimes not.

New Windows?

A new awning, hopper (an inverted awning) or casement window will let a lot of daylight in for example and are great for ventilation too. But exterior clearance and some hardware size limitations may be of concern. These hinged windows swing outwards and so that might be a problem for turning porches or verandas into an obstacle course say.

Double-hung or other sliding type windows do not have this problem to consider. But they would not be the best for choice for cold and exposed windy areas as their seals do not work as well as the above hinged windows. Despite their popularity these traditional windows are not the best at dealing with either keeping draughts out or warm air in.

These are only a couple of examples of how the choice of window style can affect the replacement window’s performance in a given area, and there are many other ways too.

So consider what you want and check out all the options before ordering new windows. It’s an important decision, so don’t make it in a hurry or just necessarily replace like with like.
