Appearance ‘Paramout’ For SWA Memeber's Private Residential Contract

Above London’s Tottenham Court Road is a seven storey, fully occupied, block of flats where a member of the Steel Window Association is near to completing a year long two phase contract for the replica replacement of old metal windows. Planning controls affecting Paramount Court prevented the use of inappropriate framing materials, with managing surveyors, Haywards, and main contractor Killby & Gayford, awarding West Leigh Limited the work under competitive tender.

What made the project more demanding for the steel window specialist, however, was the fact that not all of the original fenestration was to be replaced: around a third of the frames still being sound enough for a decorating contractor to repaint.

West Leigh has therefore undertaken the painstaking removal, measurement and replica replacement of around 400 metal windows in varying sizes.

In addition to matching the side hung and fixed light SMW units using double glazed W40 system frames, West Leigh has also produced single and double doorsets that provide access out onto tenants’ balconies.

The Director in charge of the project for Haywards, Ian Thompson, comments: “We have been very satisfied with the quality of the workmanship carried out by West Leigh and the co-operation we have had from the company. Furthermore we have also been very pleased with the quality of the windows.”

Mike Partridge of West Leigh added: “This project has progressed well, co-ordinating with Killby & Gayford as well as the other sub-contract suppliers. Many tenants have also expressed their satisfaction with both the windows and the conduct of our tradesmen.

All of the door and window frames are not only hot dip galvanized to protect against corrosion but have also been polyester powder coated by West Leigh to match the existing off-white livery. The client for the work was Paramount Court Residents Limited; the freeholder for the property.
