Spectus Slide to Success at Wimborne

Traditional-style VS profile by Spectus, installed by Dorwin, are fulfilling conservation requirements at the listed Wimborne Junior School in Portsmouth. Spectus' VS profiles are designed to look like the original vertical sliding sash windows and work in the same way, and are being regularly being approved by local authorities and specifiers to ensure the integrity of listed buildings.

Wimborne Junior School was constructed in the late 19th century and is set within a strict conservation area. When several hundred original timber sash windows required replacement, the Spectus VS was specified, in conjunction with Dorwin, to retain the original appearance of the building in a low maintenance, high-performance construction. Fabricated and installed by Dorwin, the white Spectus VS windows have the thermal efficiency of modern PVC windows.

Using Spectus' VS fabricators such as Dorwin can create widows with the all important period details. Those fabricated for Wimborne School have a deep bottom rail for a traditional vertical slider appearance and a traditional opening mechanism. To increase the weather resistance of the window there is pile seal detail on the outer frame and sash edges.

With a total of over 300 pupils, Wimborne Junior School is a co-educational community school that caters for children from the age of seven to eleven. Dorwin worked in partnership with the school to co-ordinate installation within the live school environment.
