Pella donates products for Florida family featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”
ABC’s popular home improvement television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature products manufactured and donated by Pella Corporation in an upcoming episode. Pella products will appear for the fifth time this season on the national series which provides free, complete home renovations for families with special needs.
The episode is expected to air nationally on Sunday, May 1, at 7 p.m. eastern/6 p.m. (central time) in a two-hour special on local ABC affiliates. The home makeover takes place in St. Petersburg, Fla., and includes products manufactured in Shenandoah and Pella, Iowa and Fairfield, Ohio.
A spinoff to the show called “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition — How’d They Do That?” is scheduled to air on ABC on Monday, May 2, at 8 p.m. eastern/7 p.m. (central time). The Monday evening show typically includes more detail on behind-the-scenes efforts that go into the home renovations.
“Pella is honored that ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ designers once again chose Pella to provide life-improving solutions for these deserving homeowners,” said Kathy Krafka Harkema, Pella Corporation spokesperson. “Our team members are proud to donate quality Pella windows and innovative new screens to provide years of enjoyment for these special families in need.”
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s” successful first season last year garnered an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Reality Program. Each episode features a race against time on a project that would normally take at least four months to achieve, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers who have just seven days to completely renovate an entire house plus the exterior and landscaping. Viewers witness not only the transformation of the house but the reactions and emotions of the deserving homeowners.
The Pella Window & Door Store(SM) team in the St. Petersburg area was instrumental in supporting Pella’s efforts with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Past episodes
Pella products were also featured on four previous episodes of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” earlier this season. One of the episodes, which originally aired Oct. 10, 2004, featured a new state-of-the-art living space developed for a Penngrove, Calif., family whose daughter has a severe allergy to the sun. Pella donated Architect Series® windows that featured low-emissivity glass to help reduce harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays into the family’s home.
In an episode that aired Jan. 16, 2005, new homes were built for a Los Angeles family and their son who was permanently disabled in a drive-by shooting. Pella donated premium, low-maintenance entry systems that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines to provide easier access to the home.
The third show with Pella products aired Jan. 23, 2005, and featured a Martinez, Calif., family whose daughter suffered from a rare genetic disorder that required a cord blood transplant. Doctors would not let her return to her germ-filled home, with her weakened immune system. Pella® Designer Series® windows, with blinds protected between panes of glass away from dust and airborne contaminants, were the solution for providing a safer, cleaner system to allow the daughter to again live at home without compromising her immune system.
The fourth show aired April 3, and featured a family living near the New Orleans, La., area who lost their dad and oldest son in a tragic car accident. Pella donated its Architect Series double-hung windows which combine the classic appeal of historic craftsmanship with the energy-efficiency of today's modern technology in the remodeling of a 130-year-old former plantation cottage.
