Simonton StormBreaker™ Plus Products Receive Dade County Approval

Building industry professionals working on coastal area projects can now rely on Simonton StormBreaker™ Plus products for the best protection against severe storms. The impressive line of impact resistant windows has just passed the ultimate test by receiving the Dade County building code approval.

“Everyone knows Dade County, Florida has the strictest building codes in the country,” says Bill Lazor, senior product manager for Simonton Windows. “The fact that our vinyl- framed impact resistant products have achieved the Dade County requirements signals to every building industry professional that these are incredibly durable, storm-resistant windows for use throughout the East and Gulf Coast states. As the ‘icing on the cake’ these products are also easy to maintain, offer superior energy efficiency benefits and provide protection for the home against noise and solar penetration.

“Building industry professionals know that selecting sturdy windows are a key factor in safeguarding a home during a severe storm. When glass breaks in regular windows, strong winds and rain can enter a house and literally cause the roof to blow off. The heavy invisible interlayer sandwiched between the panes of glass in the Simonton StormBreaker Plus window literally prevents the puncturing of the glass from flying debris. This means the ‘envelope’ of the house remains secure, greatly reducing damage done inside the home. Best of all, these windows never need to be boarded up or shuttered --- they’re at work 24/7 to protect the home.”

Simonton StormBreaker Plus Vinyl windows receiving Dade County approval include Double Hung, Picture, Geometric, Casement, No Hinge Casement and Awning styles. The windows also have received ASTM, AAMA and TDI approvals. The Double Hung units are believed to be the first vinyl Double Hung tilt units to receive Dade County approval. The entire line of Simonton StormBreaker Plus Vinyl products are available in 18 states, from Maine southwards to Florida, and up along the Gulf Coast to include Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.

In the state of Florida, builders and remodelers can also rely on Simonton StormBreaker Plus Aluminum windows for residential construction projects. The aluminum-framed windows that have received Dade County approval include the Single Hung, Picture and Slider styles. A Roundtop Single Hung window and several Geometric windows newly-introduced to the product line are also Dade County approved. In addition, three- and four-panel sliding doors with impact resistant glass (measuring up to 16-feet wide by 8-feet high) and aluminum frames have now been added to the product line and have Dade County approval.

“What’s really amazing is to see the extreme testing these products must go through before receiving the Dade County approvals,” says Lazor. “Independent testing firms shoot a two-by-four piece of lumber that’s nine-feet long and weighs nine pounds, directly at a window. The piece of lumber is shot multiple times at both specific and varying parts of the same window at a rate of 50-feet per second. After the impacts, the units are then subjected to 9,000 cycles of combined positive and negative pressure. To pass the test, each window needs to function operationally.” Simonton has created the free eight-page brochure, “Making the Most of Life on the Coast.” Building industry professionals and homeowners can receive the complimentary information-packed brochure by calling 1-800-SIMONTON.
