Louver Shutters - Are You A Louver Lover?

Of all the various types and styles of shutters that there are to choose from, louver shutters can give the homeowner the most control over the interior environment of their home.

But some designs of louver shutter can be very different from others. So to avoid disappointment make sure you know what performance you want from your louvers before you purchase or place an order with a shutter manufacturer or supply company.

Louvers (spelt louvres in some countries) are movable or non-movable slats that are usually positioned horizontally. Though internal shutters which are more commonly referred to as Venetian blinds also mostly have horizontal louvers, they can also be fitted with vertical or diagonal louvers for custom fits.

False, Fixed Or Operable Louver?

The first is a false louver. This is actually a raised panel shutter which is crafted so that it looks like it has louvers in the closed position. They are not real louvers because there are no gaps between the false louvers to allow in light or air.

The next type is a fixed louver. These shutters do have real louvers and they let in air and light but as the name suggests the louvers or slats are permanently fixed in position and cannot be adjusted for ventilation, privacy and shading.

The third style is the operable louver. This is the most adaptable but also the most expensive. Shutters with operable louvers allow those louver slats to tilt open and close and adjust to whatever angle you want them at. These operable louvers can greatly increase interior comfort by giving the full range of control for your changing needs of shading from bright light. As well as better taking care of your ventilation and privacy concerns.
