Replacement Window Sellers - Selling Whose Windows?

Some companies that are replacement window sellers are manufacturers too. So consequently they sell their own windows through a marketing division (or if they don't then there's definitely something wrong). But a replacement window selling business can be purely that as well.

These suppliers may have exclusive deals with certain manufacturers, or alternatively supply windows from a selection of different window makers.

Whichever the case, it may make quite a difference to your purchase. So let's investigate this a bit further.

Supply And Demand

If the supplier is also the manufacturer then obviously this cuts out the middleman. And you won't be juggled between the two playing the blame game if things go wrong. This is similar to having whoever you buy your new window from, installing it too. Then also, things can be simpler.

But some home improvement stores first buy their windows in bulk at wholesale prices, so a bargain may be found. Though often you should be aware that some manufacturers make a lower standard window for this wholesale market.

Other suppliers of replacement windows act as dealers or exclusive distributors. They typically advertise the new windows that can be bought from them and then pass your order on to the manufacturer who will construct your windows as required.

If these dealers only work with a given manufacturer, then obviously their sales talk will be biased. But on the other hand, if they sell different manufacturers windows; then they may not develop a good working relationship with them. This lack of understanding may well have a detrimental affect on the customer service.

So don't sign anything too quickly, and ponder the following:

Do they sell old windows with a defunct warranty from a manufacturer that has closed?
Are they the same quality windows as a competitor is offering?
Has the seller a good established relationship with the manufacturer?
Are they in business locally - with showrooms?
Has the manufacturer received complaints about this supplier (or the supplier complaints about the manufacturer
