Replacement Window Checklist - Write What You Want
Choosing, ordering and purchasing of new and replacement windows for your home is always a very important matter for you and your family. It can be a great help for all involved in the decision making process to come up with a replacement window checklist.
Exactly what is in these window checklists will differ as do individual customers and the window product orders that they are placing. Other considerations differ too, like well as how billing is handled for example. So replacement window checklists for some folks will look quite different from other people's idea of a proper checklist for purchasing substitute windows.
Here though are a few things that you might consider to be relevant for your checklist:
- Make sure you know exactly what you are buying, and how much it will cost.
- Think about the effect on the looks of your home of the new windows.
- Only buy windows that have NFRC labeling on them.
- Make sure all the details you request about the warranty are provided willingly.
- Don't get talked into buying anything that you don't want, or making your decision too quickly. Be firm but polite.
- Find out if you can get the same windows elsewhere for a cheaper price before you sign anything.
- If buying tinted or reflective glass, satisfy yourself it will not be too dark indoors.
- Check the window companies you choose with the Better Business Bureau.
- Look for energy efficient products to save you money if your heating or cooling bills are a concern.
- Ask when the windows will be shipped.
- Check that the window company will respect your security and privacy in all aspects of ordering, confirmation and payments.
- If you are going to install the windows yourself - check that the work will be within local building codes (especially egress codes).
- If you hire a contractor make sure they do this. And if they want you to then be warned it might mean they are not licensed.
- Ask for a mechanic lien waiver, so you won't have to pay twice to have your windows put in if the contractor company fails to pay their installers.
