A Consumer Guide To Replacing Windows |
Wood Replacement Windows - The Warmth Of WoodWood replacement windows can often be the dream window for a good number of homeowners when they want to look for some improvements to their home. For many Americans and others, there's just something about a wood replacement window that seems to suit. Obviously a natural material, wood has undeniable decorative qualities and attractions of grace and style about it that can warm the heart. And quite literally warm the home too, as wood windows are excellent insulators to keep out the winter cold. Wood can also be more resistant to condensation, and can come in any standard or custom design that's going. A quality hardwood though, can be quite expensive. So it's got to be wood then - as long as somebody else deals with the maintenance! Working With WoodSome homeowners may actually enjoy regularly staining or painting their wood windows, but most regard it as a chore that they want to put off. And putting off maintenance is not a good idea, as a wood window will deteriorate when not looked after properly once the weather gets at it. That's why a lot of wood window manufacturers now offer wood clad windows. This involves the interior frame being the desired wood whilst the outside of the window is clad in either vinyl or aluminum. But these windows can be costly. So with wood clad windows you can get the looks on the inside without having to bother with all those maintenance problems on the outside. Another approach is to use wood composites (which can be pricey too) instead of purely natural wood. This structurally combines mill sawdust and shavings with either resins or polymers for a lessening in the necessary upkeep. However, true traditionalists may well regard this convenience as a form of dilution. Most don't though, and are just happy they can enjoy the elegant appearance of wood windows in their home without having to find the time to maintain them.
