Pella Windows – Proving Ground For Energy-efficient Products

As the cost of energy increasers, homeowners are looking for ways to improve the energy efficiency of their homes while at the same time decreasing costs. The Ultimate Family Home, featuring Pella Windows and Doors, is a proving ground for energy-efficient products.

"Pella understands that homeowners are searching for ways to cut their energy bills by increasing energy efficiency", said Elaine Sagers, vice president of marketing, Pella Corporation. With Pella window and door products, they don’t have to sacrifice aesthetics to achieve cost savings.

The Ultimate Family Home, a zero-energy home, features Pella Architect Series double-hung and casement windows, Pella Designer Series sliding patio doors and French hinged doors and custom windows. The overall goal for the home is to create just as much energy as it uses.

"Pella’s unique solutions allowed us to combine two different product lines to achieve our style needs while maintaining a unified look throughout the house", said Bob Clauser, vice president of sales and marketing for Pardee Homes. This is the ultimate home for a family, so we wanted the ultimate in performance, style and beauty.

One of the key features of this ultimate home, which was designed by Bassenian/Lagoni Architects of Newport Beach, California, is the use of low-emissivity windows to reduce energy loss and heat transfer. Pella double-paned windows filled with argon gas and optional Low-E coatings increase energy efficiency. Also, locking mechanisms pull window and door sashes tighter to the frame for a better fit, decreasing air infiltration or loss from the home.

Participants of the program also are required to build energy-efficiency and quality-construction standards beyond the Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR requirements. The Pella products in the home, as well as many other Pella windows and doors, meet or exceed ENERGY STAR guidelines.
