Outswing patio doors designed for residential, commercial applications

Windsor Window Company, a leading producer of standard and custom windows and doors, has developed a new aluminum-clad outswing patio door with design and safety features for both residential and commercial applications.

"The demand for outswing patio doors is growing rapidly," said Greg Schiebout, Windsor product design manager. "Windsor’s outswing door is responding to the demands of both businesses and homeowners."

Commercial applications of outswing doors include strip malls, hotels, assisted living homes and other commercial establishments where it’s important that a door open in the direction of foot traffic. This feature offers the added safety of a quick exit in the event of a fire or other emergency.

For homeowners, outswing patio doors are growing in use because they open to the outside, giving homeowners more available living space inside. Outswing doors also offer superior protection against heavy winds and storms.

"Homeowners love these doors because they free up valuable interior floor space, while businesses want a door that opens with the flow of traffic because of safety issues." Schiebout said.

Windsor’s outswing patio doors have undergone stringent performance testing, earning an LC-40 performance rating from the NWWDA/AAMA, the governing body for testing door products.

Windsor’s outswing doors come in an array of sizes and exterior colors, including white, bronze, tan, hunter green or custom colors. The entire exterior of the two-piece door frame is covered with extruded aluminum, leaving no exposed wood, while the interior is clear solid pine with a smooth surface ready for finishing.

One of the innovative design features is that the adjustable hinges, which turn a full 180 degrees, are surfaced mounted on the frame. This eliminates the need to cut through the frame extrusion to mount the hinge, thereby preventing the potential of water leaking into the frame.

"This design feature is not found in most competitive patio door products," Schiebout said.

Available in Windsor markets nationwide, Windsor Series aluminum-clad patio doors range in sizes up to nine feet in width and eight feet in height. The doors comes in a choice of three hardware packages, and the full selection of optional Windsor grilles are available.
